Research Management Cell (RMC)

Introduction

Central Department of linguistics Research Management Cell (CLDRMC) is an interdisciplinary unit which focuses on promoting departmental activities through faculties/student's collaboration. It aims in producing applicable knowledge to foster other departments of Tribhuvan University as well as other institutions related to language and linguistics. It also explores the contribution for development of nation through linguistic studies. The researches carried out by the department have contributed to language policy makers, textbook developers, linguistic resource generators and many more. It was established formally in 2021 with the support of University Grants Commission, Bhaktapur.

Objectives

The main objectives of CDLRMC are as follows:

  • To provide environment where faculty and students will be motivated in carrying out research and academic activities;
  • To support faculties and students by providing research grants;
  • To generate funds through external or internal means;
  • To provide administrative guidelines in conducting research by faculties, students, or cross departmental research activities;
  • To facilitate different departments of Tribhuvan University and other language related institutions;
  • To encourage the language communities for language preservation and promotion.

 RMC Activities

  1. Faculty research

RMC at Central Department of Linguistics focuses on the various research activities among the faculty within the department. For this, the team can be formed by the primary researcher in an ad-hoc basis but it is encouraged to include faculty and students of the department as far as possible.

  1. Part time/visiting faculty research activities

The primary researcher can be a part time or visiting faculty of the department. The team can be formed by the primary researcher in ad-hoc basis but is encouraged to include faculties and students of the department as far as practicable.

  1. Cross Department Activities

The primary researcher can be the full-time or part-time faculty from any other departments. The team will be formed in an ad-hoc basis by CDLRMC in collaboration with faculty members of other departments or other universities at national and international levels.

  1. Student Research Activities

The primary researcher has to be a full-time student within the department. The team will be formed by CDLRMC on an ad-hoc basis but should consist of faculty members as well.

 Research Remuneration

Every research team has to abide the following conditions in terms of remuneration

  • 10% of the total research project amount should be paid to TU on behalf of RMC at the department.
  • 10% should be contributed to RMC if the project is applied through RMC
  • The remaining 80% will be usable by the research team in their own consent and summary report of all expenses has to be provided to CDLRMC.

Research Monitoring

The research activities will be monitored by CDLRMC on the timely basis. The schedule of monitoring will be decided by CDLRMC. The research team has to provide the following documents.

  • The detail report of the progress with respect to the objectives;
  • The report highlighting on the major findings pertaining to knowledge;
  • The summary report of the expenses.

Based on the reports, CDLRMC will provide necessary suggestions and feedbacks and takes necessary actions if required.

Terms of Reference of cell (TOR)

Every faculty member should abide the TOR provided. The faculty should be engaged in taking regular classes. However, upon request, CDLRMC can decrease the work load without hampering its daily activities.

Every student should abide the rules and regulations of the department. They should attend the classes, take regular exams.

Fund generating activities

CDLRMC can initiate fund generating activities like training sessions. The training can be provided to students or faculties. The collected fund will be distributed on the following basis: 20% will be provided to the department and 80% to the team involved in training program.

 Conferences

CDLRMC will also be engaged in hosting local/national and international level of conferences. The team will be formed in an ad-hoc basis by CDLRMC. The funds collection and expenses will be carried out by the formed team.

 Journals/publications

CDLRMC will also be engaged in publishing journals and publications. The team will be formed on ad-hoc basis by CDLRMC. The team will be responsible for reviewing the papers.

Note: The above-mentioned policies and guidelines will be changed from time to time subjected to the decision of CDLRMC committee's meeting.

  1. Dr Piotr Romanoski from the University of Warsaw, Poland visited the department and conducted a series of lectures at the department under Erasmus Exchange Program in 2022.
  2. Professor Krzysztof Stronski and Professor Krzysztof Dyczkowski from UAM, Poland visited the department and conducted a series of lectures in March 2023.
  3. Dr Bhim Lal Gautam visited University of Michigan, USA and gave an invited speech at (f)ASAL-13, International conference in March-April, 2023.
  4. Dr Bhim Lal Gautam visited UAM, Poznan,Poland and gave series of lectures under ERASMUS Exchange programe (June 5-11, 2023).
  5. Dr Bhim Lal Gautam visited University of Delhi, India and gave an invited lecture at the department of Linguistics in July 2023.
